Go Red for Women – This Friday!
Why Do We Go Red for Women?
Go Red for Women isn’t just about wearing red for one day in February, this initiative is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally.
Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. Symptoms of heart attack and stroke present differently in women, so don’t ignore the signals that your body may be sending to alert you.
National “Wear Red and Give Day is February 7th, 2020. Consider getting involved or planning an event at your workplace to educate your workplace about women and heart disease.
Know Your Risk, Know Your Numbers
You can’t manage what you don’t measure, which is why knowing your risk is critical to preventing cardiovascular disease. And knowing your risk starts with knowing your numbers. Five numbers, that all women should know to take control of their heart health are:
- Total Cholesterol
- HDL (good) Cholesterol
- Blood Pressure
- Blood Sugar
- Body Mass Index (BMI)
Individually you can talk to your healthcare provider to understand your risks factors and take action.
