VCU Mobile is now available for Android devices. The initial version of the app launched this week with the VCU Directory, Courses, Maps, News, Emergency contacts, Library, Athletics, and Blackboard Learn modules. With these modules, you can search for people, courses, and library books at VCU. You can check scores and schedules for your favorite VCU sports teams. You can find buildings on campus, and easily keep up to date with your courses through Blackboard.
To download VCU Mobile for Android, open the Android Market app on your phone and search for “vcu”. VCU Mobile is free to install and use, though some features may require a VCU eID to access.
The Android version shipped today with a few modules missing so that it could be released sooner. The Events, Images, and Videos modules will be added in a free update to the app once they have been fully implemented and tested. Technology Services anticipates that all of the modules available on other versions will be made available in the coming months (with the exception of iTunes U which is solely available through the iPhone and iPod touch applications).
Coming in March, an update for VCU Mobile for Blackberry will also introduce the Emergency and Athletics modules for the Blackberry platform.
