Phishing Scams and Schemes Unveiled

The following is a payment order scam. The scammer is posing as a fellow employee who is in a time crunch and needs some assistance with payment to a vendor. The scammer is hoping the false sense of urgency is enough to trick the victim to order some gift cards for them.

Some signs that this is scam are the non VCU email, the display name is similar to the actual email, but you can see the actual email address is a non VCU email. There are also some grammatical errors that a non-native english speaker might make. All of these are signs of a scam. If you have received this email please delete it.

Let me know when you will be available. I need you to get some itune or amazon gift cards. I’m presenting this to some clients. Can you run this for me at your cost? I will refund you later. Let me know so I can provide you with the types and amount needed of each.

I am going into an early meeting with some client with limited phone calls, so just reply my email.
