Another job scam was reported to VCU Information Security this week.

The email address Professor Cara Cario, Ph.D. chcario@vcu.edu via moralesmortgage.com. The scammer promising paychecks weekly of around 250.00. Please note that this is a malicious email scam designed to have the victims deposit fraudulent checks and instructs the victim to send the scammer gift cards. These scammers will use any information you can provide to utilize for other scams in the future.

Scammer using the moralesmortage website to send emails that appear to be from the professors vcu email.

See above an example of one of the messages the scammer may send its victims. VCUs google filters are able to block this malicious sender but that is not stopping them for targeting students personal emails directly. This recent scam was brought to our attention due to a student reaching out to the professor to verify the legitimacy.
