New VCU Libraries website balances ease of use, discovery and accessibility
In May of this year, VCU Libraries launched a redesigned website. Based on extensive research and feedback from VCU students, faculty, staff and community members over the course of a year and a half, the new website is focused on connecting users with information at their point of need, while also facilitating discovery of the many and varied services and resources offered by the library.
New features include
- expanded navigation menus for ease of findability
- new navigation categories that better reflect VCU Libraries spaces, resources and current strategic priorities
- side-bar highlighted areas with relevant links, events, maps and other key information
- enhanced accessibility throughout the site for people with disabilities or who use assistive technology.
While the new site launched in May marks a big step for VCU Libraries’ website, it is only the beginning of continued enhancements and improvements. Projects already underway are a new look for displaying spaces and hours; an enhanced staff directory to connect users with subject and technical experts; and curated pages to help different types of users find resources based on their unique needs.
Feedback from users is crucial in driving any changes to VCU Libraries’ website and services, and the VCU Libraries web team consistently seeks to connect with our users to help find new ways to improve the library experience, both online and in person.
