Affiliates and SSN numbers

Affiliates are individuals associated with VCU but who are not paid employees. Proper identification of affiliates and maintenance of their access to privileges such as VCUCards, email, buildings, information systems, and confidential records is necessary to provide a safe and secure campus environment for all employees, students, patients, and visitors. A Social Security Number (SSN) is required for all affiliates and helps avoid duplicate affiliate records in Banner. If there are affiliates in your area who do not have a valid SSN, contact HR Security at hrsecurity@vcu.edu for guidance.

Affiliate records stored in Banner, where VCU stores all confidential employee records, are held to high data security and confidentiality standards. Additional resources on VCU’s information security standards can be found here.

Parking fees and taxes reminder
VCU Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Karol Kain Gray recently announced that beginning July 1, the amount that salaried employees pay for parking by payroll deduction will be taken after tax instead of before tax. Under the new Federal Tax Code, VCU is subject to unrelated business income tax on the amount paid or incurred for parking provided to employees as a pre-tax benefit. Due to these changes, VCU can no longer accept parking payments on a pre-tax basis from employees.
