Fingerprinting
As we plan for the fall, we anticipate an increase in requests for fingerprints. Therefore, the VCU Police Department will provide fingerprinting services on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. starting July 1, 2016 through September 16, 2016.

Before sending employees for fingerprints, personnel administrators and hiring managers should complete section II of the National Criminal Background Check for Employees and Volunteers form. The form does not require you to note your telephone extension, though is it recommended that you include your extension on the line for your printed name to ensure you are notified about fingerprint check results. Once section II is completed, prospective new hires should take the form to the VCU Police Department for fingerprinting.

I-9 Process
Social Security Numbers: I-9s cannot be processed through E-Verify without a social security number. If a new employee has applied for but has not received his or her social security number (e.g., if she/he is a newly arrived immigrant) but has other documents to show she/he is eligible to be employed in the U.S., he/she cannot be denied employment. However, a social security number must be provided as soon it is received and an I-9 must immediately get processed through E-Verify.

Section 3, Re-clarification: This section can be used to re-clarify employment eligibility for employees who are rehired within a three-year period and for updated documents for non-citizens and/or permanent residents. If you know the employee is a rehire within a three-year period and you are unable to access the I-9 for that employee in the HireRight system, please contact the HR Compliance Office at (804) 828-8525 so the employee can be assigned to you for re-verification.
