TechTuesdayWednesday

A weekly tip from your neighborhood Instructional Technology and eHR team.

Tip #1 – Car keys? Check. Lunch? Check. Mask? Check. Teeth brushed? Check.

VCU Badge?…….uh-oh. How am I going to approve in clinics?!

It will be ok! axiUm has a backup approval process and it’s only one click away. When students bring up the approval window, the one where the attending normally swipes their card, click the “Active Dir…” button. This brings up a “Windows Log On” window. Here, use your regular VCU eid and VCU password to approve.

Tip #2 – Sharing is caring…and allows for some super cool collaboration. Google Drive is not just a storage system for your files, it is also a collaborative workspace where you can share a single document or entire folders of documents. If you are sharing a single file or document, simply click on the blue share button in the top right hand corner.

Then type the name or email address of the person with whom you are sharing.  You can click the check box to notify the person or people that you are sharing with, as well as type a quick message to them. You can even choose the level of access that they have to the document:

  • Editor- Can edit anything in the document
  • Commenter- Can leave comments on the document, but cannot change the original text.
  • Viewer- Can view the document but cannot make any changes or leave comments.  This would be a good setting when sharing things like your syllabus or other classroom documents with students.

To Share a folder, simply right click on the folder in your drive and select “share”. The same sharing window for the single document will pop up and allow you to choose the same levels of access.
