Updates to Listserv Subscription Scripts
Web Services is in the midst of a long process of upgrading the servers that make up the Jupiter Web System. One part of the upgrade process is eliminating old insecure scripts. These scripts are used to subscribe people to a Listserv email list. However, in 1999, Listserv integrated subscription services into its web interface and such scripts are no longer needed.
Starting October 3rd, 2016 for the listsub script, we are implementing a redirect to the Listserv web interface and existing links will continue to function. However, we encourage you to change the links. Unfortunately we are not redirecting the javasubs script and any links or forms that submit data to it will need to be changed. Both scripts will be removed from our servers on October 17th, 2016.
To subscript someone to your Listserv, the new prefered link is:
<a href=”https://lists.vcu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=<<LISTNAME>>”>
You can also use a mailto link:
<a href=”mailto:<<LISTNAME>>[email protected]?Subject=Subscribe to <<LISTNAME>>”>
If you have any questions please refer to the Mailing Lists FAQ at http://www.ts.vcu.edu/askit/web-tools/mailing-listslistserv/ or contact [email protected].
