Tax law impact on moving and relocation
As of August 1, moving and relocation (M&R) reimbursement is no longer available for new employees (M&R agreements for current employees that are already signed will continue to be processed). Recent tax law changes no longer provide a tax incentive for M&R reimbursement. In an effort to provide an improved new hire experience, as well as reduce the administrative costs of tracking M&R expenses, effective August 1, 2018, sign-on bonuses should be used in situations where a manager wishes to off-set costs for a new hire relocating for VCU employment. These bonuses may also be used as incentives when VCU is competing with another prospective employer, to bridge differences in base compensation, or when a candidate is uniquely qualified or will fill a highly technical or specialized role. Awards nominations – new Staff Senate Awards
Award nominations for the President’s Awards, the Dorris Douglas Budd Award, and the VCU Staff Senate Awards are open through August. The VCU Staff Senate Awards are new this year and are designed to recognize Classified Staff and University and Academic Professionals. Please encourage award nominations in your area as a way to recognize colleagues for their work. President’s and Dorris Douglas Budd Awards will be presented at the Service Awards Ceremony and Reception in October. The Staff Senate Awards will be presented at Career Development Day, also scheduled for October.
Reminder about Banner affiliate records
Today is the deadline to renew affiliates in Banner. Affiliate records (other than retirees) that have not been renewed will be terminated after today, and affiliates will lose access to associated privileges such as email, library access, etc. Use the AFREN ePAF to update the begin date for people who should remain active affiliates.
