Tech Tuesday – December 5: miPacs Web Viewer and Snipping Tool for Windows
TechTuesday
A weekly tip email from your neighborhood Instructional Technology and eHR team.
Tip #1 –
axiUm 7.12 is in the wild and with it, you can look at radiographs in style! Our traditional miPacs link in axiUm will still be used for acquisitions and viewing 2d images, but as we all know, it cannot display an entire CBCT.
Now available in axiUm is the miPacs Web Viewer, a link that’s found in the bottom left of the main axiUm menu. With a patient selected, clicking this link will launch your local browser and open the patient’s chart.

You will see all of the series listed on the left. Clicking on a series will display the images, 2d and 3d!

We are curating documentation to help you learn how to use this new viewer. Most of the tools are the same; there are a few 3d-specific tools to try. Until we get the VCU SoD-specific documentation finalized, here is miPacs’ own.
Tip #2 – Screenshot. Screen capture. Screen grab. All different names referring to the same thing – a picture of what is actually on your computer screen. This is immensely helpful for troubleshooting tech issues. When you submit tickets at support.dentistry.vcu.edu, we will frequently ask for a screenshot.
To get one, you can utilize two built in Windows features.
1. On your keyboard, press Windows key+PrtScn. This will save a screenshot of your entire screen in the Pictures folder.
2. Windows has a built-in tool called Snipping Tool

When it opens, click New. The screen will dim, waiting for you to drag and select what you want to capture.

Once you capture your selection, you can right-click to Copy. Now you can paste wherever you need. This is very useful when building documentation or when you need to explain something and it’s one of those “It would be easier to just show you” moments. (Yes, I got a screenshot of a screenshot of an email about screenshots
)
