Dear Colleagues:

As you know, VCU experienced a delayed opening until 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 14, 2019. Thank you for your cooperation during this inclement weather event. Several of you have reached out with questions regarding timekeeping about this recent delayed opening, so we’re sending this message for clarification.

For designated employees who reported to work during the authorized delayed opening, Inclement Weather Leave (ILA) should be recorded. For designated employees who did not report to work during the authorized delayed opening, accrued leave or leave without pay should be recorded. Designated employees who had previously requested and were approved for time off during the authorized delayed opening should not have their own leave charged during that time. We sincerely thank each of you for your role in upholding VCU’s important mission. If employees were unable to travel to work due to the conditions experienced throughout the metro Richmond area, University or Annual leave may be used. If these employees were able to work from home, managers should not require employees to take leave for the day or a portion of the day they were able to work from home.

We hope this clarifies any confusion. If you have any further questions, please contact leave@vcu.edu or emprel@vcu.edu. Once again, thank you for your assistance. Please extend our appreciation to all of our community members.

All my best,
Cathleen C. Burke
Assistant Vice President for Human Resources
