New dentistry liaison announced
Brenna Kate Cox is VCU Libraries’ newly appointed Research and Education Librarian with liaison duties supporting dentistry programs. She joined the faculty at the Health Sciences Library June 10, 2025 and looks forward to working with students and faculty.
As a Research and Education Librarian, Cox will support the research and educational needs of the students, faculty and staff on the MCV Campus. In her role as liaison to the VCU dentistry programs, Cox will work closely with other members of the Research and Education Department to assess the needs of growing clinical and community-based participatory research programs at VCU. Erica Brody, current liaison to the schools of Pharmacy and Dentistry, will collaborate with Cox to ensure a smooth transition that meets the needs of the School of Dentistry faculty, staff and students. Cox will join with colleagues to advance the department’s long- standing research and instruction services which includes supporting evidence-based practice, systematic reviews and grant-funded research and outreach efforts. She will also collaborate with other library departments engaged in teaching, learning and research to guide students and researchers engaged in dentistry related research.
Cox holds a Master’s in Library and Information Science as well as a Research Data Management Certificate from the University of Denver, Morgridge College of Education. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and economics from Drake University, Des Moines, IA.
Cox has progressive job experiences in libraries, most recently at the National Library of Medicine (NLM) where she started as a 2019- 2020 Associate Fellow. Subsequently she worked as a Consumer Health Technical Information Specialist at NLM where she led various projects.
More recently, she worked as a policy analyst at AHIP, a national association for health insurance providers. Cox held roles in the Clinical Innovation and Federal Affairs divisions where she curated newsletters, policy briefs and bulletins on the latest evidence and trends in prevention and population health. Her work also involved drafting responses to proposed regulations to help inform federal policy.
