Margaret Kidd receives the 2026 MARAC Distinguished Service Award
Senior Curator for the Health Sciences, Margaret Kidd, is the recipient of the 2026 Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC) Distinguished Service Award. Established in 1992, this award honors individuals whose exceptional service has strengthened MARAC and advanced the archival profession.
For nearly two decades, Margaret has been a transformative presence across the MARAC region. Colleagues consistently highlight her dedication to the organization, her commitment to mentoring emerging professionals, and her outstanding leadership in growing and sustaining the Archival Resources of the Virginias (ARVAS), which expanded from eleven to more than fifty-two members under her guidance. She also played a pivotal role in coordinating MARAC’s silent auctions, raising more than $6,000 in 2022 and 2026 to support graduate scholarships.
Across elected roles, committee service, and strategic initiatives, Margaret is known for strengthening MARAC’s organizational foundation while modeling generosity, expertise, and collaborative leadership. As one colleague wrote, “We need more archivists like Margaret Kidd, and I can think of no better person to receive the MARAC Distinguished Service Award than her.” Anyone who has worked with Margaret at VCUL will recognize that sentiment – anything worth doing, she does with exceptional care and commitment. MARAC, the archival community, and VCU Libraries are fortunate to call her a colleague.
We are delighted to celebrate this well‑deserved honor and Margaret’s enduring contributions to the archival community.
