VCU Together on One Google Domain
Collaboration Services is excited to announce that the Domain Merge project for our Google domains is in progress. This project involves the merging of our separate Student (mymail.vcu.edu) Google domain into our Faculty & Staff (vcu.edu) Google domain.
Alumni Domain Changes
The Domain Merge project includes significant changes to the Alumni domain:
- Alumni accounts will be created for VCU graduates with @mymail.vcu.edu accounts that are no longer active students.
- Email addresses in the Alumni domain are formatted as (eID)@alumni.vcu.edu.
- Data migration tools will be provided to assist migrating data from the @mymail.vcu.edu account to the @alumni.vcu.edu account for these individuals, except for accounts with department restrictions.
Benefits of the Merge
The completion of this project offers several benefits for both Faculty/Staff and Students:
- Dual role students/employees use one Google Workspace account
- Document sharing
- Sharing is always done with the @vcu.edu account
- You can now change ownership of documents between faculty/staff and students
- Mail and Calendar delegation and calendar invitations
- Delegate access to departmental generic accounts directly to students
- Secondary calendar delegation and management is allowed between faculty, staff and students
- Easier integration of Google tools with third party applications such as Canvas
- Google Chat and Chat rooms
- Search and find faculty, staff and student contacts to add to chat
- Add students to existing faculty/staff Chat rooms and vice versa
