Google Updates Recap for Weeks of March 1 and 8, 2021
Google Meet
Mute all Google Meet participants at once
As the host of a Meet, you can now mute all Google Meet recipients at once. This feature is helpful if you are about to speak and need to mute all participants.
This can be done by first clicking the “Show everyone” button, then clicking “Mute all.”
You will see “All muted” if everyone is already muted or after clicking “Mute all.”
End the call for everyone in a Meet
As the host of a Meet, when leaving the call they will now be presented with the option to “Just leave the call” or “End the call.” This is useful to remove everybody from a Meet after it has ended.
Participants will see a message that says “Your host ended the meeting for everyone.”
Google Drive
Add files owned by suspended accounts to a shared drive
If a user’s account has been suspended because they have left the university and you have the correct role to move files into a Shared Drive, you can now move files owned by a suspended account that have been shared with you as an Editor into a Shared Drive.
Google Calendar
RSVP hyperlinks now require sign-in
Previously, anybody who had access to an RSVP link for an individual could RSVP on that user’s behalf. Now, Google sign-in is required after clicking one of the RSVP options.
Note that if you are shared on someone else’s Google Calendar with a minimum permission of “Make changes to events”, you can still reply Yes, Maybe, or No, or edit the existing response to an event.
Segmentable Working Hours
You can now set Working Hours for a day with multiple segments. One example for where this may be used is for individuals who work a set schedule and have a lunch hour at the same time for a given day of the week. Working Hours are great for setting times on your Google Calendar for when you are and are not available.
A given day can have a maximum of 6 separate segments, and each day of the week can have different segmented hours.
Jamboard
See version history on the web for a Jamboard.
Jamboard now allows you to see the version history of a “Jam” file, create named versions for a “Jam” file, and restore to a previous version of a “Jam” file. This behavior is identical to the same functionality for other Google Drive files such as Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
