The new building will soon be rising out of “the pit” on the Linden-Park side of Cabell Library.

On Friday, Sept. 19, starting at 2 a.m. the concrete “mat slab” will be poured. Preparations — a 3D web of steel rebar that will reinforce the concrete — are nearly complete. The “pour” will comprise 1,000 yards of concrete mix, which is about 100 truck loads.

Because of the constant stream of trucks going in and out of the construction site, the work has been scheduled for the time of day when foot traffic is lowest.
