The title of this blog entry is the first daily activity that VCU CIO Mark WIllis laid out for the VCU Technology Services staff as a key priority at our recent divisional staff meetings. Providing excellent customer service has long been part of the VCU TS mission and has been included on our yearly Mission and Priorities card since at least 2006. However this year Mark decided to take it up a notch and challenge the staff to be the best customer service unit at VCU. One of the examples that Mark used as an excellent customer service organization is Zappos. Is Zappos an online shoe retailer that provides great customer service or a great customer service organization that sells shoes online? They started out to sell shoes but the key belief is that customer service is something everyone is involved in and seen as a core value. Zappos is a great customer service organization.

So will VCU TS be a technology unit that provides great customer service or a great customer service unit who supports the mission of the university through the use of technology? We have staff who already exhibit the latter. Below is a video from our divisional meeting of some of our staff talking about customer service. There work and attitude provides a great foundation as we strive to be the best customer service unit at VCU.
