The VCU Technology Services Blog

lotusNotesTraveler_workDoesnt4.pngVCU faculty and staff now have more choices than ever for accessing their Lotus Notes email, calendar, and contacts from mobile devices. In the past people have been able to use their Blackberry or Windows Mobile device for accessing this critical data. iPhone OS based devices could either use IMAP or access their Lotus Notes email with Ultralite adding limited views to other data but both had drawbacks. That has all changed now.

VCUTS Email Services has rolled out Lotus Notes Traveler for iPhone and iPod touch. This service, available previously only for Windows Mobile devices, provides tight integration with the iPhone OS by allowing iPhone and iPod touch owners use of the familiar mail, calendar, and contacts iPhone OS applications to access their Lotus Notes data. VCU email is available in the Mail application with read/unread statuses being automatically updated for viewing back at the desktop client. When writing someone at VCU you can even start typing their name in the “To:” field and the Mail application will search for their email address just like the Lotus Notes client. Lotus Notes contacts are available in the Contacts application with a VCU people search capability added for good measure. The iPhone/iPod touch calendar will access your Lotus Notes calendar with changes synced between your device and the Lotus Notes system.  The net effect is what you see on your Lotus Notes desktop or web client will be what you see on your mobile device and vice versa.

More information about Lotus Notes Traveler and how to get started is available in the VCU Technology Services Knowledge Base.  And if you have a question, Dr. Notes is just an email away for assistance.
