Be prepared for some changes in traffic patterns in Cabell Library thatStarbucks_cups may be difficult to navigate until after you’ve had your morning coffee.

Renovation of Starbucks Cafe in Cabell Library begins this week. Work will be in two phases: First, The northeast corner where the old entrance and Information Services (public services desk and staff area) were once located and, two, the current Starbucks space.

Not to worry: Starbucks will be open during the construction phases.

Phase 1 starts Tuesday, Nov. 17 when the contractor (Food Services Renovations) for the Starbucks renovations puts up a construction wall that will block access to the main stairwell (the one with the mural) from the first to the second floor. The stairwell next to the north entry into Starbucks from the basement to the first floor will also close. The north entry into Starbucks will be blocked off, too.

This phase of  construction will create a new service point for Starbucks and create an entry into Starbucks directly from the new building entrance.  Construction of this phase will likely be completed by the end of January.

The second construction phase (current Starbucks space) will be completed in March 2016.

The noisiest work involved will be the demolition of the ceramic tile floors and core drilling for the plumbing and electrical. This work will be done between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. when the building is open OR from 10 p.m. on Fridays to 10 a.m. on Saturdays when the  building is closed.
