The Center for Corporate Education is proud to offer scholarships to participants interested in enrolling in one of our courses. One of our most recent scholarship recipients, Joanne Biggs, answered a few questions for us about her experience and advice for future participants. For more information on our scholarship program, visit the CCE website.

What is your current career path, and how did you get there?

I don’t have a career path, per se, rather I am hoping to stay in my position until I retire.  I rather enjoy being the fiscal technician for my department, so other than a slot upgrade here or there, I am happy where I am.  I have been in both a vendor position selling to higher education in Virginia and now I am serving as a buyer for my department.

How was your experience with your specific course?

The course I took, Applied Excel, was very informative, but it did move a little quickly for me.  I found I would like more of a deep dive into Excel in the future.

How will your experience change or enhance your current career path?

I am hoping to work on my skills building financial spreadsheets to provide value to my department.

What advice would you have for someone considering participating in a CCE course?

Make sure the content is what you are looking for and what will assist you with your present or future position.

Describe a “lightbulb” moment you’ve had on your personal career journey.

Over the years, I have come to value my personal time and have worked toward a proper work/life balance to manage stress and stay happy.  Prevent burn out by not driving yourself too hard or working ridiculous hours.  Money is great, but if you hate what you are doing, it doesn’t add much to your life in the long run.
