Showing May 1-3.

Nicasio Reid, a kinetic imaging senior graduating on May 13, will present his artwork on the Cabell Screen in a solo show May 1-3 at noon.

Reid is a multimedia artist, working primarily in video, animation, and sound. His work visually appears to be “analog”, but all creations are made digitally. He manipulates found digital imagery through a process of stretching and compressing the media. This repetitious act introduces compression artifacts, which appear as a graphic, fuzzy loss of clarity. The transformation is generally undesirable but can also be seen as a form of beauty, as it points to the  history of the image.

The work presented on the Cabell Screen is from a project titled “Blast Off,” a series of vignettes that follows an alien race searching for new worlds. Their star is set to supernova, so they decide to harvest all the resources from their planet and set off into uncharted space. In order to increase their species’ chances for survival, the aliens split their population up and send them in different directions, their fates left up to the cosmos. “Blast Off” can be viewed as a whole online on Reid’s  website.

This work showed on the Cabell Screen May 1, 2 and 3.
