FAA / Government Shutdown Travel Update (December 2025)
With the government shutdown now resolved, the FAA has lifted its emergency flight-reduction measures and air travel has largely returned to normal operations. Airlines have restored most schedules, and airport activity is stabilizing as staffing and flight operations return to their usual pace.
Although normal operations have resumed, minor delays or residual schedule adjustments may still occur as airlines complete their final post-shutdown resets. With the busy holiday travel period approaching, it’s still wise to stay alert to any last-minute changes.
Tips for Travelers
- Monitor your flight status ahead of departure using airline apps or notifications.
- Choose morning flights when possible, as they remain less prone to cascading delays.
- Plan for a little extra time at the airport, especially on peak travel days.
- If your flight is canceled, rebook promptly through the airline app or by contacting Collegiate Travel Planners for assistance.
- For critical return trips, consider adding a small buffer where possible.
Thank you for your flexibility during the recent disruption. With operations stabilized, we expect a typical and smooth holiday travel season, as long as travelers keep an eye on updates and plan ahead.
