Best Practices in Online Education
Dr. Mary Lynn Davis-Ajami is the concentration coordinator for the Nursing Administration and Leadership M.S. degree at the VCU School of Nursing. Recently, the program made some changes to the curriculum and moved all courses online.
Here are a few of the best practices in online teaching that Dr. Davis-Ajami has integrated into the new curriculum:
- incorporated weekly synchronous office hours using Zoom! video conferencing technology.
- developed a template for all courses in the concentration. That way students don’t have to try to guess where information is located.
- incorporated a Kaltura webcam recording assignment where students have to record themselves reading the VCU Honor Pledge. This assignment is great to help identify the students that have signed up for the course are the same students completing assignments in the course.
- uses Blackboard’s SafeAssign in assignments that are essay-based
