Mapp Room closing Dec. 17 until further notice
Cabell’s fourth floor Mapp Room, which is the space now reserved for graduate students only, will close immediately after exams are given and will remain closed until further notice, perhaps as long as throughout the spring semester.
The unavoidable closure is due to construction that will transform and enlarge Cabell Library’s Special Collections and Archives department. During this transition, when the adjacent space is under construction, the Mapp Room will be used as a temporary reading room for Special Collections. Because of the heightened security and staffing required when rare and archival materials are in use, the room cannot be open to all patrons. Moreover, it will no longer be a quiet study zone.
Cabell Library leadership apologizes for any inconvenience. Graduate students can look forward to a new 110-seat graduate and faculty reading room in 2015-16.
During construction, alternative quiet study spaces are:
- Group or small study rooms, reserved online
- Fourth floor beyond the double glass doors
- Third floor, both whisper-only and quiet areas
- Room 250, which is open for student use if not otherwise reserved
- Second floor and ground floors, Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences, 509. N. 12th St., convenient by way of the Campus Connector Shuttle
