By University Librarian John E. Ulmschneider

The Virginia General Assembly convened last Wednesday for its two-month session. VCU Libraries is in the governor’s proposed budget for funds that will allow us to begin designing an expanded Student Academic Commons at James Branch Cabell Library. I’ve been working closely with and will continue to work closely with the president’s office, the provost’s office and the office of governmental affairs at VCU to assist our lobbyists and chief spokespersons in securing this hoped-for funding.  Development Director Kimberly Separ and I are working closely with university fundraising and advancement leadership to develop a plan for private fundraising to supplement a potential state appropriation.

To provide accurate and complete information, we have created some Web pages containing essentially the same information that has been shared with legislators. We hope this answers most basic questions about our hopes and plans. http://www.library.vcu.edu/new-library/index.html Feel free to share this with colleagues on campus and friends off campus.

This is going to be an exciting journey that will significantly improve the library resources on the Monroe Park campus for undergraduate and graduate students.
