VCU Libraries cancels events and meetings until further notice
Because of coronavirus precautions, many events and meetings scheduled to be held in James Branch Cabell Library and Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences have been canceled.
The VCU Office of the President currently mandates that all university events with a possible attendance of 100 or more people be canceled, rescheduled, or moved online until April 15. Because of potential high use of library buildings and the health risk this might pose patrons and employees alike, VCU Libraries has elected to close both library buildings starting 6 p.m. on Friday, March 20. The reopen date for the buildings has not yet been determined.
Members of the university community who have a library-based meeting on their calendars should check with their meeting planner to confirm arrangements, which likely will include Zoom or another online meeting platform.
Canceled public events organized by VCU Libraries include:
- March 19: “Stumped” documentary screening as part of the Real Life Film Series;
- March 26: invitation-only Library Leadership Dinner;
- April 3: Artistic Mansions III lecture and walking tour;
- April 13: final installment of the spring Dissertation & Thesis Writing Retreat series;
- April 23: annual Brown-Lyons Lecture with journalist Peter Beinart;
- Wednesdays in the Workshop series for the remainder of the semester.
