The judges have concluded their deliberations and excitement is building, as VCU Libraries nears the finale of the inaugural Jurgen Comics Contest. VCU Publishing will celebrate the winning comics during the week of James Branch Cabell’s birthday, April 11-14.

Coming that week:

–The winner will be announced in a news article and on social media;
–A selection of students’ Jurgen Comics will be published in digital and print formats;
–A display of selected entries and the winning work will be on view at James Branch Cabell Library;
–Selected details of the student entries will form an exhibit on the Cabell Screen;
–On April 14, Mr. Cabell’s birthday, contest organizers will staff a table in the Cabell Lobby to discuss the contest and the library’s namesake.

This year’s Jurgen Comics Contest challenged students to create single-page “Sunday newspaper-style” comics focusing on the censorship of Cabell’s book, Jurgen: A Comedy of Justice.

The contest is sponsored by VCU Libraries with generous support from the Cabell Library Associates for prizes, publication and provision for a year-long student contest editor.
