Following the success of past years’ “Welcome Week” or “Weeks of Welcome,” a series of orientation opportunities, VCU Libraries introduced the Study Well Campaign to engage students in a ways to help them cope in their return to in-person campus life and become comfortable in the academic research library environment.

One feature of Study Well is lighthearted and fun. Each day at Cabell Library, a blank white board is placed in the lobby. The board typically features a question to prompt interaction, such as “what is your favorite outdoor study spot on campus?” or “what song is the score of your life?”

Recently, Gabby Brownson, student engagement and outreach coordinator, who maintains the board, came up with the unusual prompt of “Draw Your Best Ferret.” The popularity of the post is clear from the results, as is the talent of our students.

This is just one small example of how VCU Libraries seeks to welcome and engage VCU students in whatever manner they are most comfortable.
