The first day of classes is always a day to see and be seen at VCU. That’s why on Aug. 25, 2016, photographers and Candid Campus_student with bookvideographers from VCU’s Division of University Relations set up a simple white backdrop outside of Hibbs Hall, pointed their cameras and let VCU students do the talking. And the smiling. And the jumping. And the high-fiving.

Anyone could walk right up and participate in the “Candid Campus” shoot, and nearly 100 people did. Students chose to pose solo or in groups, sometimes including skateboards, backpacks, bikes, dogs and laptops in the mix.

Their photos capture the energy, friendliness and openness that define the VCU spirit. You can view this year’s photos here or take a look back at last year’s Candid Campus.–Elinor Frisa

Showing: Aug. 31-Sept. 2. Additional showings may be scheduled.
