New Minimum Client Version To Address Security Threat
A newly identified software vulnerability potentially allows a meeting attendee to perform remote code execution on vulnerable versions of Zoom.
This vulnerability impacts Zoom Workplace, Zoom Workplace for VDI, Zoom Meeting SDK, and Zoom Rooms on all platforms (iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, and Linux).
VCU’s Information Security Office considers this a serious vulnerability with the potential for rapid exploitation given the rise of AI-powered threats. As such we are establishing a new minimum zoom version on an accelerated schedule.
Zoom client version 7.1.5 will be the minimum version allowed for participation in VCU-hosted Zoom meetings and webinars on August 12th (today) @ 12PM.
Users running older client versions will be prompted to update before hosting or joining their next meeting. Updating is typically a quick and easy process, but those users who lack admin privileges on departmentally owned devices may need help from their desktop support teams. In a pinch, you can use the “Join from your browser” option to bypass the desktop client altogether until you have the time to follow through with the update.
Thanks for helping us ensure the security of VCU’s networks. If you need help, please contact us at [email protected]
