Version 6.1.0 or Higher Required for VCU Zoom Meetings
At the direction of the Information Security Office, we will be enforcing Zoom Workplace version 6.1.0 as the minimum version allowed for participation in VCU-hosted Zoom meetings and webinars as of 4PM Friday, Sept. 13. This is to address several recently identified security vulnerabilities in older versions.
This rule will apply equally to Windows, Mac and Linux users. Once enforced, users running a version older than 6.1.0 will be prompted to update their software before hosting or joining their next meeting.
Updating Zoom is typically a quick and easy process, but in order to avoid any inconvenience you may wish to take a moment to upgrade before this rule takes effect on 9/13. As a reminder, you can verify your current software version by choosing “Check for updates” from the pull-down menu that launches when you click your profile picture (or initials) in the desktop app’s navigation bar. As long as you’re at 6.1.0 or higher, no further action is necessary.
The latest software version can also be downloaded and installed from https://zoom.us/download.
Keep in mind that if you lack admin privileges on your university-owned device, you may need help from your department’s desktop support team to complete the install.
Thank you for helping us keep VCU Zoom safe and secure for all users. As always, please feel free to contact the Zoom team at [email protected] with questions or concerns.
