VCU faculty are invited to two open sessions this October to learn more about the results of the COACHE survey and how those insights are shaping institutional priorities. These sessions are designed to foster transparency, invite dialogue, and support collaborative action.

What Is COACHE and Why It Matters
Last spring, VCU faculty shared their experiences through the COACHE survey, administered by Harvard University. With a response rate that exceeded national and peer benchmarks, our faculty demonstrated a deep commitment to shaping the future of our academic community.
The survey report — analyzed and benchmarked by COACHE — affirms many of our strengths, including collegiality, academic freedom, and departmental leadership. The report also highlights areas where we can grow, such as mentoring, promotion, workload, and senior leadership support. These insights are already guiding new initiatives across our campuses, from expanded mentorship programs to interdisciplinary collaborations like the Convergence Labs.
The COACHE Steering Committee meets regularly to interpret the findings and develop targeted recommendations. A faculty-accessible dashboard is in development for spring 2026, and updates are posted regularly at provost.vcu.edu/coache.
