Continuing the Momentum, Together

Dear colleagues,
It is truly a privilege to return to VCU, an institution that holds a special place in my heart and a community I am proud to call home again.
I carry fond memories of my previous time as provost here, and I am honored to once again work alongside you as interim provost to advance the mission and momentum of this extraordinary institution.
One of the greatest professional opportunities of that earlier chapter was partnering with President Rao. His leadership has propelled VCU forward as a national model for research, innovation, access and impact.
I am confident that this forward momentum will continue in the months ahead. You have accomplished so much together in recent years, and I return not to revisit the past, but to help shape the future: one rooted in innovation, excellence and an unwavering focus on supporting ALL people in our community.
Our emphasis on fostering a culture of care will continue to propel our dedicated support of the incredible faculty that drive our collective success. That priority is shared by my colleague, Kathy Rudasill, our interim senior vice provost for faculty affairs. At the heart of our work together will be the continued focus on student success and academic excellence.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to Dr. Fotis Sotiropoulos for his leadership over the past several years. His dedication to VCU’s academic mission has been deeply felt, and we wish him continued success in his new role at Penn State.
The search for VCU’s next provost is already underway, with the goal of having a permanent leader in place by the end of this calendar year. In the meantime, I am here to ensure we keep moving forward — together, without pause.
Thank you for your warm welcome. I look forward to listening, collaborating and supporting your work in the months ahead.
With appreciation,
Beverly J. Warren, Ed.D., Ph.D.
Interim Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
