The Office of the Provost is thrilled to introduce the Expanding Networks of Expert Scholars initiative! This new program is designed to support the growth of tenure-eligible assistant and tenured associate professors by helping them build their national and international scholarly networks. Applications are due March 17, 2025.

What’s in it for you?
This initiative is all about helping you advance your career by connecting you with leading scholars in your field. Whether you need critical feedback on a project, want to organize a panel session, or invite a major scholar to give a talk, this program provides the funds to make it happen.

Key Details:

  • Who can apply? Tenure-eligible assistant and tenured associate professors.
  • What can you do with the funds? Invite one or more leading scholars to:
    • Provide feedback on a project (e.g., manuscript, grant proposal)
    • Organize a panel session
    • Give a talk
  • Important note: The external scholars should not be your current or former mentors, advisors, collaborators, sponsors, or colleagues. The goal is to help you establish new connections that could be valuable for your promotion and tenure.

Funding Information:

  • Up to 6 awards of up to $5000 each academic year. Each award requires 50% matching funds from the awardee’s school/college.
  • Funds can cover travel costs, honoraria, and other related expenses (but not your own research).

How to Apply:
Submit your application by March 17th, 2025. Your submission should include:

  1. A narrative (max 1,000 words) detailing:
    • Goals of the engagement (e.g., review of grant proposal, book manuscript, panel, invited talk)
    • List of potential external scholars with their rank/title, university affiliation, and website URL (if available)
    • Rationale for selecting each scholar
    • How this opportunity will enhance your career and promotion trajectory, including anticipated outcomes
  2. Confirmation of 50% matching funds from your School/College Dean
  3. Your current CV or biosketch
  4. A budget outlining how the funds will be used (max one page)

After the Engagement:
Once the engagement is over, you’ll need to submit a one-page report within a month. This report should describe your experience, how you engaged with the scholar(s), insights gained, and the impact on your career progression.
