Training for Canvas
There are a number of different training options for making the switch to the Canvas Learning Management System.
Training Services Portal
One option is the Canvas Training Services Portal. This is an additional service that was provide for by VCU that allows you to access multiple webinars on a daily basis on all things related to Canvas.
To access the service, click the Help menu icon and the “Training Services Portal” link at the bottom of the menu. You will then get a screen that asks for access to your account. Click the Authorize button to access the training.
The first screens involve a tutorial on what the portal has to offer. Click the X in the upper right to close the window. Once you enter the portal, click the “Training Calendar” link in the menu bar to see all of the synchronous session available on each day. To sign up for a class, click the class name and the register button. You will receive an email confirmation that will allow you to add the training to your Google calendar with a link to join the session. Any handouts or additional information will be included in the email.
Canvas Guides
The Canvas Community Site offers web and video guides to learn more about the various features of Canvas. To access the guides, click the Help menu from Canvas and click the Canvas Guides link.
The Instructor Guide and the Video Guide will be good places to start. The Instructor Guide consists of a number of web pages with screen shots and instructions on how to accomplish various tasks within Canvas. If you are a paper person, scroll to the bottom of the page and you can download a guide in PDF format. The Video Guide is a brief listing of a number of different videos that demonstrates how to accomplish a task in Canvas.
VCU Learning Systems
VCU Learning Systems is offering a number of synchronous training classes, recordings from past sessions, a Canvas email list, and much more.
