Using Video in your Course
At Friday’s Teaching Academy session, we had a lively discussion on using video in your course. There are a few VCU resources that may be of tremendous help to you as you are planning to add video content. They are:
- VCU Kanopy Streaming – a resource from VCU Libraries which gives you access to thousands of videos that you can embed directly into your Blackboard course.
- Use the YouTube Mashup Tool on Blackboard if you happen to find a good video from YouTube and want the video to be embedded within your course.
- Roy Brown’s video page. He includes great links to NEJM videos, the Lippincott Nursing Health Assessment Video Series VCU Libraries subscribes to, PBS Frontline videos and more.
- Kaltura – which you can use to create a presentation, create a webcam recording, have students download videos, or create a video quiz.
Additionally, here is an interesting faculty publication that describes the use of films in a nursing course. Cinemeducation: Teaching Family Assessment Skills Using Full-Length Movies from Wilson, Blake, Taylor and Hannings of Kennesaw State University.
