Research and Education Librarian Roy Brown has been selected for the Professional Coaching Program for Mid-Level Managers Pilot offered by the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL) with funding support from the Network of the National Library of Medicine Region 1. Selection into the inaugural cohort was highly competitive.

At the Health Sciences Library, Roy Brown is an Associate Professor who serves as liaison to the nurses of VCU Health and the VCU School of Nursing. As part of this work, he serves on VCU Health and on the School of Nursing’s evidence-based practice and research committees. He also supports the VCU Health Nurse Residency and the Nursing Interns and Scholars Programs by working closely with administrators overseeing the program as well as with participants.

The new leadership development program is designed to enhance skills and professional growth among emerging leaders in academic health sciences libraries, preparing participants for higher leadership roles within their institutions and in the broader academic health sciences library community. The program’s comprehensive curriculum includes one-on-one coaching, group workshops and peer networking opportunities. Participants will engage in activities that foster self-awareness, strategic thinking and effective communication, all essential skills for successful leadership in today’s dynamic academic environment.
