To celebrate the opening of its new Reflection Room, VCU Libraries seeks visual works of art for a curated exhibit for The Cabell Screen. The large digital screen on the front facade of the library building is a high-profile exhibit space designed to delight the VCU community with outstanding public art.

The art selected for “Reflections” should capture, suggest or evoke feelings of reflection–meditation, inner peace, reverence, silence, contemplation, deliberation, calm or beauty. Paintings, illustrations, animations, short soundless films or photographs, any visual artforms are invited. Images showing the campus community or capturing a sense of place are welcome, as are images of architectural details that suggest a moment of calm or beauty–a pause in the midst of our busy urban environment.

Submissions should be created by faculty, staff, students, alumni or local artists. Works created using Artificial Intelligence programs are not eligible for display.

Works (a digital file) should be submitted no later than November 30 using this submissions form form.  Artists retain all rights to their work.

The exhibit will run through the end of 2023 and into 2024. The artist’s name and title of the work will be published in a companion news article/ blog posting published on the VCU Libraries homepage and/or on other VCU channels.

The selection committee will award one Best in Show honor among the exhibitors. Honorable mentions may also be given. The honoree(s) will receive a certificate.
