Canvas Third Party Tools Update
Canvas Third Party Tool Removals & Upgrades have now been completed. In some cases, action may be required to enable tool use following the completion of the maintenance window.
- Zoom/Zoom HIPAA Users: the Zoom or Zoom HIPAA tool must be re-enabled within the Canvas course navigation. For more information, please see: How do I manage Course Navigation links? For additional information about Zoom at VCU, please see: go.vcu.edu/zoom.
- Users of BigBlueButton, Evolve Link, Macmillan Learning, MyBusinessCourse, Packback, TurningPoint Registration, Vista Higher Learning, WileyPLUS: If instructors would like a tool integrated with their individual course(s) only, they should obtain their own tool credentials (i.e. secret and key) and can then add the tool to their own individual course following the instructions provided by the vendor supporting the tool. Please note that this only applies to particular tools on LTI version 1.1.
- Tools installed at the course level are not subject to review and are able to be configured at the discretion of the faculty or staff member responsible for course development. We strongly recommend that faculty and staff proceed with caution and consider how students may be impacted by these types of tools.
As an aside, Kaltura My Media is now only located in the Account Navigation and can no longer be accessed via Course Navigation. Visit the Kaltura LTI 1.3 User Guide for more information.
For additional information about Canvas tool integration at VCU, and how to request the installation of a tool at the institution or departmental level, please see: https://go.vcu.edu/canvas-tools. All questions regarding this change should be directed to [email protected].
UPDATE: The below behavior has been resolved as of 5/22/24. You should now only be seeing the “Kaltura My Media 1.3” option under Account Navigation and “Kaltura Media Gallery 1.3” under Course Navigation. Thank you for your patience as we worked to get this issue resolved.
Note: We are working to remove “Media Gallery” from Course Navigation, which we hope to have completed soon; be sure you are using the “Kaltura Media Gallery 1.3” option, as highlighted in the image below.
Additionally, when attempting to embed Kaltura Media via the Rich Content Editor (RCE), it is recommended that you use the Kaltura icon.
If you decided to use the “View All” option, you will be presented with two Kaltura options. Use the “Embed Kaltura 1.3 Mediaspace” option.
