Dentistry@VCU hygienist Margaret Snellings as the Tooth Fairy.

In 2011, Dentistry@VCU joined forces with the National Children’s Oral Health Foundation: America’s ToothFairy (NCOHF) and became a member of its national affiliate network in order to increase oral health awareness and fight the number one chronic childhood disease – early childhood caries.

Now, Dentistry@VCU is honored to be recognized as the first NCOHF University Affiliate Oral Health Zone.  Through the Dentistry@VCU Oral Health Zone, dental hygienists, dental students and residents provide free oral health education lectures and patient screenings to organizations, schools and community groups in the Greater Richmond area.

Our staff has worked with select Richmond and Tri-Cities area public elementary and middle schools, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond, the Richmond City Health District’s Resource Mothers and WIC programs, and the Richmond City Police Activities League community involvement days offering free oral health education.  Dentistry@VCU also participates in NCOHF: America’s ToothFairy signature programs including Students United for America’s Toothfairy, America’s ToothFairy Kids Club and Tomorrow’s SMILES.

We are proud to be honored with this title and will continue to work in an effort to spread our services and programs to the Richmond and Tri-Cities area.
