A portrait of Dr. King is showing on the Cabell Screen on Jan. 20, 2025, from 6 a.m. to midnight. The photo was taken after he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 “for his non-violent struggle for civil rights for the Afro-American population.”

A university-wide planning committee has organized a robust group of programs, including a student-led community conversation connecting the ongoing East Marshall Street Well Project with the legacy of MLK on Jan. 22, a keynote address at the Institute for Contemporary Art on Jan. 23 and many other events.

The 8th Annual Silent Candlelight Vigil March is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 20. Participants are asked to assemble by 6 p.m. in front of the VCUarts Depot at 814 W. Broad Street. The vigil will move through campus and pause at the front of Cabell Library for a 5-minute reflection where the portrait of Dr. King will be displayed. The march will conclude at the Academic Commons.
