Michael Rao, Ph.D.

Please join me in congratulating the dedicated faculty and staff of VCU Health for their well-deserved recognition from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the Arnold P. Gold Foundation. The recognition of VCU Health with the DeWitt C. Baldwin Jr. Award rightfully recognizes universities for all they do to ensure medical residents receive an education that extends beyond the clinical and into personal well-being.

Along with the AHA-McKesson Quest for Quality Prize and the C. Peter McGrath University Community Engagement Award, the DeWitt C. Baldwin Jr. Award further confirms that Virginia Commonwealth University is fully committed to educating residents of the importance of wellness with a humanistic approach both for themselves and their patients.

I hold my colleagues at VCU Health in high esteem as they prepare our students to provide necessary, life-saving and leading edge health care to others. The gratitude I hold for my colleagues is immense.

I thank interim associate dean for graduate medical education Stephanie Ann Call, M.D., for her exemplary leadership across multiple disciplines to ensure that medical residents are prepared for a successful career in health care.
