VCU Parking and Transportation

News & information

October 24 – R Lot Pedestrian Crossing

It has come to our attention that several subscribers are attempting to cross 14th Street illegally to board the M Lot shuttle during the day.  Please be advised that regulations do not permit a safe pedestrian crossing to and/or from these two facilities, and VCU Parking and Transportation as well as the VCU Police highly discourage this practice due to the associated safety implications and potential bus crowding.

Additionally, though a VCU Police officer is stationed in this area in the afternoons, the officer must direct his/her attention towards ensuring a safe and efficient egress for M and R Lot vehicles.

As a reminder, RamRide offers service to the R Lot from 5 am-12 am, Monday through Friday.  Two shuttles are always servicing this facility throughout the day—two exclusively dedicated to R Lot during peak times and two M Lot shuttles during off-peak times.  Please note, though it may appear that the M Lot shuttle provides a faster route during the morning and evening peak periods, headway times for both the R and M Lot shuttles average 11 to 12 minutes daily.

The safety of our subscribers and passengers remains our number one concern.  Despite the perceived time benefits, we encourage all subscribers to practice safe pedestrian behaviors at all times.  As always, subscribers may track the status of RamRide in real time through the “RamRide” app, accessible by vcu.transloc.com or the VCU Mobile app.

October 17 – New VCU Employee Parking Permits – Update

A few months ago, we informed you that we would be transitioning all VCU employee parking permits to RFID hangtags.  We are excited to note that we have recently completed the mailing of these new permits and, by now, all employees should have received their hangtags.

Therefore, on Saturday, October 22, all of the old, grey adhesive employee permits (beginning with the letter “E”) will be deactivated.

If you’re currently displaying an adhesive permit on your windshield, please destroy this permit and begin using your new hangtag to enter and exit your designated facility.  As a reminder, your VCUCard can also be used as a secondary credential for access into the decks.

In the event you have not received your new hangtag permit, please contact customer service at your earliest convenience at 828-PARK (7275) or [email protected].

October 14- New Text Alert Service Available to Subscribers

It is with great excitement that we announce the launch of our new text service! This service will be used to communicate emergency parking related alerts, specific to designated parking facilities across the Monroe Park and MCV campuses.

Please note, if you choose to enroll in this service, you will still continue to receive emails regarding parking impacts.  Additionally, this text messaging service does not replicate or replace the VCU emergency text alert service.

Here’s how to enroll:
1. Visit http://www.parking.vcu.edu/news-and-alerts/text-service.
2. Select your designated parking facility from the drop-down menu to retrieve your keyword.
3. Text “VCUPARKING-your keyword” to 21000.
4. You will receive a confirmation message stating that you are opted in to the service. No additional action is required. You will now receive emergency notifications related to the selected parking facility.

We are implementing this service in efforts to improve communication and better meet the needs of our customers.  We hope that you find this new service beneficial to your overall parking experience.

As a reminder, you can always stay informed of Parking and Transportation news by following us on our Facebook and Twitter channels.

Expanded Transit Service to the A Lot – October 5, 2016

We have received several concerns regarding wait times for the Sanger Express- A Lot shuttles, particularly during the morning peak times.  To address the growing ridership and better serve our subscribers, we will be implementing a few changes to expand transit coverage at this facility.

In addition to extending the service time of one of our existing A Lot shuttles to 10 am (formerly 8:30 am), beginning Monday, October 17, we will be adding a supplementary bus to service this route from 6:30 am to 9:30 am, for a total of four buses operating during the morning peak period.

We hope these changes will enhance subscribers’ daily commutes by decreasing wait times and reducing congestion.  As a reminder, you can track the status of RamRide in real time by visiting vcu.transloc.com or downloading the VCU Mobile “RamRide” app.
