Put Some Tech in Your T&L

Greetings VCU Faculty,

Congratulations! You made it through your first official semester using Canvas. We hope the experience has been seamless and beneficial.

Final Grades

Final grades are due by December 22, 2021 at noon via Faculty eServices, not Canvas. For more information visit the Faculty Grade Entry page.

Canvas 24/7 Support

With the holidays approaching and intercession and J-term sessions soon to begin, it is important to know where to go for support.

Faculty, staff and students can receive 24/7 support directly from a Canvas Support technician by logging into Canvas and clicking on the Help button located at the bottom of the Global Navigation menu. For additional information on the different ways to get support, visit the Access Vendor Support page. Please note that the chat option is the most effective and efficient method that provides an on-the-spot resolution.

Training Opportunities Continue

Teaching with Technology Survival Bootcamp – VCU Online and VCU Academic Technologies will be offering another 4 day bootcamp from January 11-14, 2022. The bootcamp will include sessions from Top Hat and Respondus – Enroll Here

Training recordings links are all located on the Training Recordings List and are listed by category.

Canvas Updates

We are now posting monthly Canvas Feature Updates in our Learning Systems blog to keep you updated on enhancements, new features or fixes. These updates are derived from the Canvas Release Notes that come out every 2 weeks. Please subscribe to the Learning Systems blog to keep up with any new tips, updates or activities taking place.

Classic Quizzes End of Life Announcement

Starting in July 2022, the default quizzing function in Canvas will be “New Quizzes”. “Classic Quizzes” will no longer be available for creating a new quiz in your course after December 2022.

Rest assured, anything previously created in Classic Quizzes will still be available; however, all newly created quizzes will use the New Quizzes platform.

For more information regarding the transition from “Classic Quizzes” to the “New Quizzes” format, visit the Quizzes Transition page.

Google Assignments Announcement

Please be advised that the previous Google Assignments LTI, v1.1, will be removed from Canvas on May 31, 2022 and will be replaced with the new Google Assignments LTI v1.3.

Please note that the Google Assignments 1.1 LTI is referenced within Canvas as the “Google Docs” embed for the rich-text editor and as “Google Apps”. The Google Assignments 1.3 LTI includes new assignments functionality and the new Google Drive “LTI.”

Documentation and support for Assignments can be located on the Collaboration Services Assignments page. Here, clinical users will be able to find the process that they should be following as well.

Collaboration Services (drgee@vcu.edu) is the primary support contact for this tool and will be happy to assist with any additional questions you may have.
