On Friday January 16, a record 55 students participated in the 2009 VDA Legislative Day. After getting up VERY early in the cold and dark, they turned on their bright smiles, bright minds, and bright energies to cast light on important issues, impressing both VDA dentists and VA legislators.

In face-to-face meetings with senators and delegates, they advocated on behalf of the School of Dentistry and for the profession. Issues discussed included financial support for VDA MOM Projects, permitting a rural, 2- year public health pilot for dental hygienists, and maintaining the current malpractice award cap.

The students also thanked the legislators for their past support of $9.1M for the Perkinson Building and $5.7M for construction and equipment of a satellite dental clinic in Wise.
