UPDATE: Wireless Presentation Device Issue
I wanted to update everyone on the current status of the Wireless presentation devices required update due to the PHP Vulnerability. During the update deployment process, the manufacturer advised that one of the device models we use at VCU will need to have it’s operating system reimaged so that it can receive the necessary patch. Unfortunately this is a manual process and each device affected will need to be updated in person before it can be patched. This process has begun and it will continue until completed. Until these updates are applied, the devices will remain inoperable. We are prioritizing the updates of the classrooms whose usage data reflects that wireless devices have been used so far this fall. After that we will continue to update all remaining central classrooms. We expect to have all prioritized wireless devices updated during the projected maintenance window published in our previous post, which is November 6th. We will continue to update the remaining classroom devices around class schedules and expect the remaining central classroom wireless devices fully available by the end of the Thanksgiving Break, if not before. If you teach in a central classroom and you need to use the wireless presentation system this semester, please submit a Central Classroom AV Support Ticket through RamsCentral and we will add that room to the priority list to address as soon as possible. That ticket will also be updated to let you know when your classroom’s device has been updated. In the meantime, we continue to recommend using the available HDMI input for displaying content from your portable devices.
For those who use wireless presentation systems in Non-Central Classrooms and spaces, we will be communicating with the departmental representatives responsible for those devices next week to help identify their projected resolution window.
We appreciate your patience as we continue to address these issues.
