VCU Massey Cancer Center receives prestigious distinction
VCU Massey Cancer Center re-designated by the National Cancer Institute for its 42nd year.
Massey was the first cancer center in Virginia to receive this prestigious distinction.
Virginia Commonwealth University Massey Cancer Center has earned renewal of its designation as a National Cancer Institute Cancer Center for demonstrating superior capabilities in multi-disciplinary basic, clinical and prevention/control research and high impact within its catchment area.
“This is an outstanding accomplishment for the Massey Cancer Center” says Dr. F. Gerard, “Gerry” Moeller, Director of the Wright Center. “We look forward to many more years of collaboration with Massey in research areas including clinical trials, informatics, education, and VCU’s Enterprise Data Warehouse”.
Massey’s 5-year renewal, as an NCI-designated cancer center, extends to 2022 and includes a multi-million dollar grant to support research infrastructure.
Massey was the first NCI-designated cancer center in Virginia, having received a planning grant from the NCI in 1974 to establish a cancer center at VCU and earning NCI designation in 1975. Massey has retained the designation ever since.
