I am delighted to bring to your attention a significant career milestone of one of our colleagues, Faik Musayev, who is celebrating an impressive 25 years of dedicated service at VCU in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry (SOP) and the Center for Drug Discovery.

Reflecting on this occasion, I would like to share a memorable moment we experienced together. Faik and I first crossed paths in Taipei, Taiwan, approximately 30 years ago, and our connection was immediate. For about 2 and half years when I was in Taiwan, we weathered numerous earthquakes and typhoons together. Unfortunately, one such earthquake hit Taiwan a few days ago with damages and casualties.  After two years upon my return to VCU, Faik moved from Taiwan to join our group at VCU  —undoubtedly a wise and rewarding decision. Since his arrival at VCU, Faik has exhibited tireless dedication, even during challenging periods, contributing significantly to various structural biology projects and offering invaluable support to numerous investigators at VCU. What truly distinguishes Faik is his unwavering commitment to excellence, consistently surpassing expectations and uplifting those around him with his positivity. His exceptional work ethic has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the people he is associated with and the culture at the Center.

Faik, on behalf of all of us, I extend profound gratitude for the passion and loyalty you have demonstrated year after year. Here’s to celebrating this remarkable achievement and to the anticipation of many more milestones together. Congratulations, Faik, and thank you for being an exemplary cornerstone of our Center.

Martin Safo,

Interim Director, Center for Drug Discovery, VCU
