Favorite thing about residency: Making a living while working in a learning environment. Also, you are never alone, always other residents around discuss things and ask questions.

Favorite thing about Newport News: How easily accessible everything is. Drive to work, grocery store, etc. is short. Incredibly easy to get around.

Goals after residency: Moving to Chicago to be with my fiance and puppy. I see myself in an outpatient setting – urgent care.

Favorite thing about residency: Getting to meet and work with people from all different backgrounds — from D.O.s, OB-GYN residents, and EM residents and my fellow FM residents.

Favorite thing about residency: Learning with application and teamwork.

Favorite thing about Newport News: Versatile city with a lot of activities to offer around the area. Being close to the water.

Goals after residency: Group practice in outpatient setting in between Harrisonburg and Northern VA.

Perfect place to learn at, where your voice is heard and your learning is given the highest priority.

Nick Platamone, DO

Favorite thing about residency: Learning how to be a physician. It is a great feeling becoming more confident in your abilities as a doctor.

Favorite thing about Newport News: Being surrounded by water. I love to kayak, fish, and have access to the Chesapeake Bay and smaller bodies of water. It’s also a short drive to Williamsburg, Richmond, Norfolk, and VA Beach.

Goals after residency: I plan to pursue a fellowship in sports medicine while my wife finishes her fourth year in OB/GYN residency.

I was born in California and have lived all over the country as a navy brat. I couples matched at Riverside with my fiance / wife (depends on when you read this). I am a kettle bell enthusiast.

Favorite thing about Newport News: Everything! Great location to the beach, Richmond, Williamsburg. Love going to Newport News Park and Noland Trail.

Favorite thing about residency: The broad scope of training and support of fellow residents and attending faculty.

Favorite thing about Newport News: Its proximity to outdoor destinations and activities including VA Beach and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Goals after residency: Plan to practice in the Southeast in a rural Emergency Department setting with a possible fellowship in Sports Med and considering an MBA in the future.

In my free time I enjoy golfing, skiing, weight lifting, and spending time in the mountains.

Time and time again everyone from my friends and family to medical students and AIs tell me everyone in the program is so nice. It makes for a great and supportive learning environment.

Favorite thing about residency: Realizing how much you’ve progressed as a physician in the early stages of what will be hopefully a long fulfilling career. The changes from intern year in the very beginning to even halfway through intern year are remarkarble in your self and fellow residents and it’s amazing to see.

Favorite thing about Newport News: Well, prior to COVID, probably being close to Busch Gardens but now probably Huntington Beach or Lion’s Bridge.

Goals after residency: Get Paid Son!! But hopefully outpatient Family Medicine. Trying to keep an open mind about location.
